Oh Crop! A Barnyard Birthday Card by Deborah Hellman

Welcome to day 1 of Hidden Gems Week! We are rolling out the Crafty Crew red carpet today for Deborah Hellman and this adorable barnyard birthday card!

Deborah featured our Stephen’s Barnyard Buddies 4x6 Stamp Set with the Ma Heifers 6x6 Paper Pack, and she created such a fun layered design with bold red accents, sweet farm-inspired patterned paper, and the cutest little birthday scene.

We especially love that she shared a tutorial for adding the stitched details on the card — such a clever way to bring extra texture and handmade charm to the project.

Hi everyone! Deborah here and I’m excited to share with you my Hidden Gem Birthday card that I created using the Stephen's Barnyard Buddies 4x6 Stamp Set and the Ma Heifers 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad. This set is perfect for making some fun Summer cards and Birthday cards!

I really enjoyed working with the Stephen's Barnyard Buddies 4x6 Stamp Set. This set also includes three of his Barnyard Buddies and a sentiment. The papers in the Ma Heifers 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad complement this set beautifully with lots of fun options.

After stamping and cutting out my image on white cardstock, I selected my cardstock. I opted for a red, blue, green, and beige color palette. Once I had my paper colors, I colored my main image using alcohol ink markers, making sure to select colors that matched my papers.

Here are my A2 card layer dimensions:
Base Farm Paper layer - 4¼" x 5½"
Red plaid layer - 4⅝" x 3½"
Cloud print rectangle - 3¾" x 2¼"
Red Flag Banner - 1¾" x 3¾"
Green Flag Banner - ⅞" x 1" with ½" exposed
Sentiment - 1⅞" x 1⅛"

I wanted to add some additional interest, so I added some red zig-zag stitching to the left and right sides of my red plaid. After stitching, I pulled the thread ends to the back, tied, and secured them with tape. It was actually quite simple to do.
