Mer-Tastic Birthday Wishes with Randy Nguyen

Mer-Tastic Birthday Wishes with Randy Nguyen

Today we’re rolling out the red carpet for Randy Nguyen and this bright, bubbly mermaid kitty card featuring our Whiskers of the Sea 4x6 Stamp Set and Bubbles 6x6 Stencil. We love how Randy created an underwater birthday scene with playful mer-kitties, layered bubbles, and a bold pop of gold. This project is such a fun example of how stenciled texture and sweet stamped characters can come together to create a cheerful handmade birthday card.

Here’s what Randy had to say about the project:

Hello crafty friends, DT Randy here, welcome back to the blog. There's a new set in the shop and it's called "Whiskers of the Sea" and it's mer-tastic! Or shall I say, Mer-cats-tic!

I wanted to create a cute background for them so I combined the 'Bubble Wreath' die set and the 'Bubbles' stencil.

I first stamped out my images and then I used Copic Markers to color them. I then fussy cut them out.

For my background, I took an A2 panel and ink blended it with Peacock Feathers and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxides. And then I took the Bubbles Stencil and ink blended it onto the panel with Uncharted Mariner and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides.

I took white watercolor and splattered it over the panel using a paint brush.

I then die cut out the bubble wreath using gold cardstock.

I heat embossed my sentiment onto purple cardstock using embossing ink and white embossing powder. I then trimmed it down into a sentiment strip.

I adhered my wreath using liquid adhesive. I then adhered my mer-cats onto the panel using foam tape.

I added the sentiment using liquid adhesive below the mer-cats to complete the card.

Aren't these mer-cats just adorable?!
