Love Birds in Winter | A Heartwarming Scene by Megan

Hey there crafty friends. Megan with the design team here. Today I have a card that features one of the newly released sets from Crafty Stamp Co, Love Birds. With a special guest appearance from a fall favorite, Fall Hedgies. I really enjoy mixing and matching my sets. I think you will find that this card is loaded with technique and sparkle.
To create this playful winter scene, I started by reverse stamping the Hediges with the balloon. To reverse the stamp image, you do need a silicone mat. To do this, stamp your image on the mat, if there is any part you want to erase carefully do so. I erased the word fall so that I could stamp in the heart. I blew a little breath on the mat to moisten the image then placed my paper right on top. I carefully smooshed the paper down to ensure the image transfer. Then I put one finger on the bottom left corner of the paper and carefully lifted off the paper from the top right corner of the mat. I did end up having to do this 2 times to get an image I liked. If you have any imperfections on the image, you can use a black thin line pen to fill in that area.
Once I was done with the transfer, I stamped the heart from the Love is in the Air stamp set in the middle of the balloon. I stamped out and colored the rest of the images using Copic markers. I was coloring from the heart, and in hindsight I should have colored the scarf of the hedgie yellow, to tie in with the yellow bird. This would have created a more cohesive scene. Once I was done coloring I fussy cut my images. To complete the birdhouse, I added a white gel pen snow cap along the roof line.
I have a hillside die cut in my stash that I used to give extra depth and layers to the card. On the top edge of each hill, I added a hint of B02 Copic marker and stardust stickles. I can't help but add a touch of glimmer and glam. I added foam to the hills, so that I could tuck the sweet bird house behind the snow hill.
From there I created a winter blue background. I layered distress inks Peacock Feathers and Stormy Sky on the top 3/4 of a piece of Bristol Smooth paper. I added two layers of color to get the nice variation in the sky scene. I used clean water to add splatters and then stormy sky to add splatters on top of that. Layering splatters is a great way to get more dimension on a flat card. I white heat embossed the sentiment once the background was dry. Be sure it is dry and you use an antistatic powder. Or you WILL end up with a bit of a mess on the paper.
I cut a blue stitched border frame to focus the eye to the middle of the card where the images are. The card felt plain without the die cut and it made a world of difference. I then added my images and splatter white splatters on top to create a snow scene.
