Country Charm and Heilan Coos Cuteness with Megan Cooper

Today we’re rolling out the crafty red carpet for Megan Cooper and this absolutely adorable country-inspired card featuring our Heilan Coos Stamp Set! From the bright blue sky to the sweet little flowers and those darling shaggy coos, this card is packed with handmade charm.

Megan also gave the Vintage Romance Pattern Paper a fresh twist, using it in such a fun country style that feels both cozy and unexpected. And one of our favorite details has to be the way she colored the edges of her fussy-cut images so they blend right into the scene so beautifully. It is the kind of thoughtful finishing touch that makes a card feel extra special.

Here’s what Megan had to say about her lovely creation:

Hello everyone! Megan with the design team here. Today I am sharing a card that features the sweetest Coos ever! The stamp set used to create this adorable scene is Heilan Coos. I paired it with the Vintage Romance 6x6 Pattern Paper.

I cut a piece of red cardstock to an A2 size card. Then cut the buffalo gingham from the Vintage Romance pattern paper 1/8" smaller than the A2 card size. I glued the two together, then cut the middle with a die from my stash. This created a pretty frame for my scene.

I laid out my image on my stamping platform so I could decide the placement of the sentiment. I used black embossing powder to set the sentiment.

I then ink blended a piece of Bristol cardstock using a mix of Distress Inks and Distress Oxide inks. I used the Swirls of Madness stencil to add a faint bit of interest in the background. Clouds would also work, but since it is my card I decided to try something different. I often feel like when I am creating, I create based on what I think others would want to see. Sometimes it is nice just to run with an idea. After all, it is just paper and ink and you can try again. I added clean water splats and white ink splats.

Once the background was dry (I may have used my heat gun to speed up this process) I stamped the other supporting scene images.

  • There are two flowers in the set, one large and one small.
  • I used the small flower to stamp around the coos.
  • I added drawn stems and leaves to finish the flower and connect them with the ground.
  • Then stamped the two butterflies. I did use Copic safe ink to do this.
  • Once the ink was dry, I colored the flowers and butterflies with Copic markers.

I also added shadows under the sentiment and the flowers. I should have added it under the coos as well. But I forgot to do so before I added a layer of Distress Glaze to the full scene. Adding glaze brightens up the background, but then it is sealed and anything you add to the top layer won't blend into the background.

I colored my focal images last, I used Copic markers to color each image and then cut them out on the Scan N Cut. I placed them on my background and used Copic markers to color the white outline to blend it into the background. I could have not skipped white edge border, but sometimes the Scan N Cut will cut on the wrong side of the black line. It is easier, maybe even safer just to cut the outline and color the edge to match the scene!

To finish the card, I added glitter with a glue pen to the butterflies, the center of the flowers and on top of the drawn shadow under the flowers. I mean why not, glitter is fun.

I hope these coos and bits of glitter put a smile on your face. I encourage you to use your pattern papers for more than just background layers!
