A Little Bloom for Your Day with Shilo Miles

A Little Bloom for Your Day with Shilo Miles

Today we’re rolling out the red carpet for Shilo Miles and this soft, cheerful butterfly card featuring our Flutterbys & Blooms 4x6 Stamp Set and Daisies 6x6 Stencil. We love how Shilo created a delicate grid-style design filled with pastel stenciled panels, sweet butterflies, and blooming floral details. This project is such a lovely example of how soft color, texture, and small stamped images can come together to create a bright handmade card full of charm.

Here’s what Shilo had to say about the project:

Hi everyone! This is Shilo! I’m dropping in with “a little bloom for your day”! Today’s card is featuring the Crafty Stamp Co – Butterflies & Blooms Stamp Set paired with the Daisies Stencil. Both of these products are part of the July Crafty Crew Kit.

When I saw these adorable butterflies I knew I wanted to use as many of them as possible on my card! I also knew I wanted to color them in soft pastel like tones.

I’m going to walk you through a step by step of how I made this card. Then you can replicate it with any color combo you choose…I can’t wait to see what you make!

The first thing I did was decide which distress colors I wanted to use on my background. I chose to use a postage stamp die set from my stash so I could have multiple “frames” and backgrounds for the butterflies.

For the background (postage blocks):

  1.     Cut THREE 4 X 5.25” pieces of white cardstock. Take one piece and using washi, tape the edges to a smooth surface. Then place the Daisies Stencil over top and again using washi, tape the edges down. Finally take your postage block stencil and place on top of the daisies stencil and adhere down. Now you are ready to ink.

2.     Make sure when you are inking to mask each block so you don’t mix your colors.  I just used post-it notes to do this.

3.     Once you have inked all the blocks, you can remove the stencils. You are now ready to use your coordinating postage dies OR you can cut out each stenciled block with a trimmer.

4.     Take a piece of your cut white cardstock and using your postage background die cut it out.

5.     Take the third and final piece of cut white cardstock and use ANY embossing folder to create texture. We are now ready to assemble.

6.     First adhere you embossing cardstock directly to an A2 card front.

7.     Then using foam tape, adhere the postage background die cut piece.

8.     Before adding your inked blocks – sew a variety of messy stitches (this is optional)

9.     Adhere each inked block to the correctly fitting space, I alternated some flat and some with foam tape.

For the butterflies:

1.     Stamp one of each butterfly, and one of each flower stem.

2.     Determining which butterfly you would like on which inked block - color to match the inked hue. (I used copic markers for mine – but whatever medium is your preference)

3.     Use a white gel pen to add detail to the butterfly eyes.

4.     Once colored adhere each butterfly to its coordinating block (again I alternated with flat and foam tape)

5.     Stamp out the sentiment of choice and die cut. Adhere to card.

6.     Finish card with gems, sequins, or confetti.
